Position Purpose: 

The Applied Technologies Buisness Area performs its work at the intersection of science and technology. The projects executed are complex in nature and incorporate aspects of mechanical engineering, electrical engineer, and software. To that end the Buisness Area needs a professional who has experience in these disciplines to facilitate the overall systems engineering in a methodical, disciplined approach for the design, realization, technical management, and execution of system devolopment, verification, and validation. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures projects are executed per standard engineering and company practices, policies, and procedures.


Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other scientists to ensure proper interface between engineered subsystems and alignment of project team efforts.


Maintains awareness of project, programmatic, and technical risks through active identification and execution of risk mitigation strategies.


Contributes to the design of systems through mechanical design utilizing SolidWorks, electrical design, and software development.


Assists in the acquiring of new business by contributing to new proposals through the writing of technical sections.


Develops scopes of work, generates specifications, and oversees technical execution design, testing, and validation of Signature Science engineering projects.


Develops and oversees the successful execution of the project plans, maintains scope control, and ensures project requirements are met within schedule and budget.


Develops and implements rigorous test plans used in the verification and validation of Signature Science deliverables.


Works in a laboratory enviroment to build and test new products and systems.



Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel,  Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint.


Must be profficient in the use of SolidWorks for mechanical design. Experience in LabView and/or CFD modeling packages would be beneficial.


Experience in optimizing parts for injection molding would be beneficial.


Must be able to work collaboratively in a team enviroment with other engineers and scientists.





Incumbent must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus 6-15 years experience.


Certificates and Licenses:

No certifications or licenses required.



The position requires the successful candidate be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET level clearance.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

No supervisory responsibilities.


Working Conditions/ Equipment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The incumbent will work in a general office environment with general office equipment. The incumbent will also work in warehouses, laboratories, storage or other specialized facilities on and off the Austin campus.  The incumbent will be required to work a set schedule negotiated with the supervisor. 


The incumbent must be able to ascend a ladder to facilitate building inspections, and be able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance and 50 pounds with assistance to complete inventory activities.


Incumbent may have to wear and function in personal protective equipment, endure higher or lower than average temperatures for limited periods.


Domestic travel of up to 15 % time may be required.
