Job Description: Computer Science support to the research, development, test and evaluation of tools or algorithms that support rapid, accurate and automated analysis and reporting of complex biological, chemical or other data sets. Support numerous research and development projects related to public safety, defense and national security. The candidate must be motivated to contribute in a team environment, collaborate across multiple scientific and technical disciplines, and be excited to develop new skills. The candidate must have the flexibility to balance multiple on-going tasks while operating efficiently with minimal supervision.
Required Skills:

  • Training and experience with current software development methodologies and processes (e.g., Agile/scrum processes, Git version control)
  • Experience on a variety of hardware and operating systems
  • Experience and training in formal testing methods
  • Familiarity with life science disciplines (e.g., biology, chemistry)
  • Ability to code from requirement, functional, and/or design documents
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language and preferably proficient in C, C#, C++, R, Python, Pandas, and Javascript
  • Experience with Docker is preferable
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems, demonstrate independent problem solving skills, and be resourceful in obtaining information
  • Detail and analysis oriented
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English, both verbally and written
  • Ability to work as a good team member
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated time management and completion of tasks to a definite deadline

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement software modules. Create design documents and software module specifications from the direction of project leaders. Create interfaces to or from other applications or databases.
  • Code programs or make modifications to existing programs or modules
  • Participate in code reviews for development projects
  • Develop written application test plans
  • Perform debugging, unit, and system level testing on programs
  • Update and review module, program, and application documentation
  • Review and provide input to technical writers, and if needed, provide training on developed software
  • Provide accurate time estimates for design, coding and testing; create status reports
  • Develop and implement application test plans, including both integration and full system test plans for publications, software and training materials
  • Create program specifications to ensure proper direction during development
  • Additional job functions may include internal research and development, proposal writing, and business development. Domestic travel may be required.

Clearance Status:
This position requires that the candidate be willing and able to complete a successful background screening for a security clearance. Candidates with an active security clearance will receive preference.
